Counselling and therapy in a safe, comfortable and private setting

My name is Jane and I am a counsellor providing both short- and long-term therapy to adult individuals. I trained as a person-centred counsellor at the University of East Anglia having first studied other approaches, including psychodynamic counselling. I have over 15 years' experience of working therapeutically with adults, both in the voluntary sector and in my private practice. I will work with you to help you to gain some insight into your feelings, thoughts and behaviours. I will endeavour always to be open and honest with you.

Seeking therapy can feel like taking a big chance and you may not really know what you’re hoping for from therapy. We can be prompted to seek help from a therapist for many different reasons. You may be struggling with an issue you can’t seem to resolve on your own, or feeling anxious or depressed. Or you may have a general sense of unease in your own skin.

Sometimes, we can feel that we’ve lost a sense of what really matters to us. This can lead to us being stuck in habitual modes of thinking and feeling. If you are noticing the same patterns repeating themselves in your life and would like somewhere to explore this further, counselling could help.

Many experiences in life can leave us with a sense of dislocation, of not really belonging. I have a special interest in working with the challenges faced by clients who struggle with issues of identity. These can often be a consequence of experiences such as time spent at boarding school. Such experiences can leave very painful scars and can manifest in adulthood as difficulties in forming close relationships.

I work with individuals who are navigating their way to greater self-understanding and self-acceptance. Whatever you may be struggling with, whether it's something you are experiencing now or something from your past, I will listen to you very carefully and respectfully as we work together.

The way in which you live your life is unique to you. I will honour your uniqueness and provide a warm, open, honest and empathic space free of judgment where, together, we can explore whatever is troubling you.

About Me

I trained at the University of East Anglia and have over 15 years of experience working therapeutically with adults, both in the voluntary sector and in my private practice.  I work with clients to help them to gain some insight into what may be getting in the way of their leading a life of meaning through working with their feelings, thoughts and behaviours.

In my previous career, I spent long periods of time away at sea in the merchant navy before joining the Civil Service.  I transitioned into training as a therapist following my own quest for finding a sense of belonging.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and the British Psychological Society (BPS).
